With the announcement that 2012 will see the next Anna Lindh Forum, over 1000 civil society organizations commit to common road map for restoring trust in shared values
Barcelona, 7 March 2010: The Anna Lindh Forum for Intercultural Dialogue concluded today after three days of active debate and common activities, having successfully brought together for the very first time the largest number of civil society member organisations from all 43 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Speaking at the closing of the Forum, André Azoulay, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation said:
“There can now be no limit to our ambition for bringing people together for dialogue. In terms of the level of collective participation, as well as the quality of the debates and proposed action, the Anna Lindh Forum has been a success beyond our expectations and represents an inspiration to all of us working for a common Mediterranean future.”
The three-day Forum has combined debates on key issues at the core of intercultural relations between people in the Region as well as the first platform for the different National Civil Society Networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation to share ideas, develop new partnerships and prepare new actions at the local and transnational level.
Priorities for civil society actors include reinforcing programmes of education, mobility, translation and migrant initiatives; the importance of cultural citizenship; increasing coordination between the current regional dialogue initiatives and networks; ensuring equality in terms of participation of civil society from the two shores of the Mediterranean; responding collectively to the challenges of unemployment and the impact of the global economic crisis on intercultural relations in the Region.
The final day also concluded with the announcement by the organizers that the next Anna Lindh Forum will take place in 2012, which will mark the launch of the Foundation´s next triennial programme phase of action across the Union for the Mediterranean Region.
